The Power of Seven and How Seven Minutes Can Change Your Life.
There was a 5K coming up and my coworker had asked me to participate. I was in great shape but didn’t (and still don’t) like running. As a former soccer player who quit after freshman year because it started to feel more like track then soccer, I knew I was capable, but I was really not willing … or ready! Nevertheless, I would do it for her.
I started running on the elliptical to get ready for this 5K. To say my cardiovascular strength was lacking was an understatement. I started looking up things on Pinterest to find out the best way to train and how to do it without falling over from lack of air.
I found something that said after the first seven minutes of running your body starts to realize what’s going on and begins to support you. That was news to me. From then on every time I got onto the elliptical to run, I would motivate myself by saying, “just make it through the first seven”! You can do seven. And sure enough, I would make it and it would become (somewhat) easier.
[I will say the last half was always easier for me than the first.]
To fast forward to the end, I ran the 5K with only two short 1 minute breaks and felt like a champ. I didn’t make some incredible time, but it felt good to me knowing I stuck with it, gave it at least seven minutes every time I trained, and I finished the race. Plus, my cardiovascular strength increased immensely. I was proud of myself. After that, I completed a few more 5K’s and eventually was able to make it up to an hour at a time on the elliptical. That was a huge personal goal for me, and the power of seven always helped me get started.
All this to say, I now apply this to all aspects of my life. If I can get through the first seven minutes of anything, I’ll be able to finish. I’ll feel more accomplished for it. More than likely, other people will benefit from whatever the task at hand happens to be. It will be a WIN WIN on all sides!
The power of seven is tremendous. Seven minutes of reading, seven minutes of an assignment, seven minutes of quiet to work out a situation mentally, seven minutes of alone time to work out your goals, dreams, and aspirations for the week, seven minutes of an at home sweat sesh, SEVEN MINUTES will change your life if you allow it to.
Next time you set a goal, remember the Power of Seven. Remember that it only takes seven minutes for your body to get onboard and get you through. You can do anything when you apply the Power of Seven.
